Kia Expands Platform Beyond Vehicle Strategy with Debut of PV7 Commercial Electric Van

Kia is accelerating its ambitions to dominate the commercial electric vehicle sector with the official introduction of the PV7. The newly unveiled model represents a substantial step forward in the South Korean automaker’s comprehensive commercial vehicle initiative, adding a larger, highly capable workhorse to its growing lineup of purpose-built electric transports.

The global premiere took place at the IAA Transportation 2026 commercial vehicle trade show in Hannover, Germany. Serving as a larger sibling to the smaller PV5 that arrived on the market in 2025, the PV7 provides commercial fleets with greater interior volume and enhanced capability for zero-emission transportation tasks.

This expansion follows a development trajectory that Kia first laid out at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). During that initial presentation, company leadership announced plans to enter the purpose-built vehicle market with modular designs, previewing the larger van concept that has now materialized into the production-ready PV7.

Developed as the second dedicated model in Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) lineup, the PV7 is built purely as a battery-electric offering. The manufacturer has opted against traditional internal combustion powerplants or hybrid configurations, committing the vehicle entirely to an all-electric format to meet stringent global fleet emissions goals.

To address distinct operational requirements, Kia will manufacture the PV7 in both dedicated Passenger and high-capacity Cargo configurations. These variations are engineered to accommodate a diverse spectrum of commercial use cases, ranging from logistics delivery and freight operations to passenger shuttle and group transit services.

The PV7 shares its mechanical and structural foundation with the smaller PV5, utilizing Kia's specialized E-GMP.S vehicle architecture. This electric platform was engineered to handle the demands of commercial duties while accommodating a variety of modular body arrangements across the automaker's commercial portfolio.

A key practical advantage of the E-GMP.S platform is its completely flat load floor. By integrating the electric powertrain and battery components smoothly below the body, the vehicle maximizes usable interior dimensions, providing commercial operators with superior loading ease and increased overall cubic capacity.

The flat-floor skateboard architecture also offers extensive flexibility for long-term manufacturing adjustments. Kia has emphasized that this modular platform will allow engineers to design and introduce additional vehicle variants to the lineup in future development cycles, catering to evolving commercial needs.

Energy storage in the PV7 comes in two distinct configurations, allowing fleet operators to tailor vehicle specifications to their typical daily driving distances. The company is offering the commercial van with either a standard 72-kilowatt-hour battery pack or a larger 96-kilowatt-hour long-range battery option.

Both battery capacities rely on nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) cell chemistry. This battery composition provides the energy density necessary to support demanding commercial workloads, enabling delivery vans to complete heavy transportation tasks without sacrificing operational utility.

In terms of power and performance, the PV7 is capable of delivering up to 268 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. The automaker noted that precise powertrain calibrations and finalized power ratings may vary depending on the destination market and the specific vehicle configuration selected by the customer.

When the PV7 begins rolling off assembly lines, the initial production units will be equipped with a front-wheel-drive powertrain layout. Looking ahead, Kia plans to broaden the van's mechanical capabilities by introducing an all-wheel-drive drivetrain option at a later date to assist drivers in challenging road conditions.

In its most efficient Long Range Cargo trim, the PV7 achieves an estimated driving range of up to 285 miles per charge. This evaluation is based on testing conducted under Europe's Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) regulatory cycle.

For comparative standards used in North America, that European rating is projected to translate to roughly 240 miles of total driving range when measured using the methodology of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The vehicle's operational efficiency is further enhanced by an advanced 800-volt high-voltage electrical system. This cutting-edge architecture enables ultra-fast DC charging speeds, helping delivery drivers and fleet managers drastically reduce turnaround times at commercial charging stations during working hours.

Kia will initiate commercial deliveries of the PV7 across European markets and in its home territory of South Korea. The model's entry into these core regions marks an essential milestone as the automaker works to expand its presence across the global electric commercial vehicle industry.
