An Israeli human rights organization has issued a stark warning regarding what it describes as an accelerated, state-driven effort to eradicate Palestinian collective existence throughout the occupied West Bank. According to the advocacy group, Israeli authorities are pursuing a broad strategy designed to permanently establish Jewish-Israeli control and sovereignty across the territory.
The findings were published on Monday in an extensive report titled "The Elimination Project" by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem. The document outlines a multifaceted series of policies and tactics employed by the Israeli government, arguing that these actions collectively aim to wipe out the Palestinian presence across the occupied territory.
According to B’Tselem, the ongoing situation cannot be understood as a collection of disjointed occurrences or random escalations. Yuli Novak, the executive director of B’Tselem, emphasized that Palestinians in the West Bank are confronting a comprehensive, unified political initiative that systematically infiltrates and disrupts every facet of daily survival.
The report contextualizes these developments within a broader, long-standing settler colonial framework, but emphasizes that the pace of implementation has dramatically intensified. This escalation gained notable momentum following the establishment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in late 2022 and accelerated further in the wake of the Hamas-led assault on southern Israel in October 2023.
To construct its assessment, the rights group gathered and evaluated roughly 2,000 firsthand testimonies from Palestinian residents across the West Bank. Through these accounts, the organization identified five distinct yet interconnected mechanisms that Israeli authorities rely upon to carry out their strategic objectives in the occupied region.
The first major mechanism highlighted in the investigation is the direct application of state and proxy violence. The report indicates that Israel utilizes its formal military forces alongside armed settler militias to enforce a regime of fear, coercion, and physical violence against local Palestinian populations.
The lethal human cost of these operations has been severe. B’Tselem documented that between October 2023 and September 2026, Israeli actions resulted in the deaths of at least 1,107 Palestinians across various areas of the occupied West Bank.
This violence is further amplified by official military raids, the systematic demolition of structures, and direct military support provided to armed settlers. Together, these coordinated efforts work to drive Palestinian families and farmers away from their ancestral lands, thereby expanding Israeli territorial dominance across the landscape.
As a result of this pressure, large-scale displacement has become widespread. The report notes that at least 75 entire Palestinian communities have been forcibly driven out of their homes. Through armed settler activity backed by state structures, control has been established over more than 1,070,000 dunams of territory as of July 2026, which accounts for roughly 18 percent of the total land area of the West Bank. A dunam represents a regional unit of land measurement equal to 1,000 square meters, or approximately 0.247 acres.
In addition to the expulsion of rural and farming communities, urban and camp populations have suffered major disruption. Around 33,000 Palestinians have been displaced from refugee camps situated in the northern regions of the West Bank due to ongoing operations and pressures.
The third mechanism detailed by B’Tselem involves the severe limitation of basic freedom of movement for Palestinians. Citing data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the report points out that 925 movement barriers—comprising physical roadblocks, checkpoints, and unmanned barriers—had been established throughout the West Bank by the end of last year.
Economic strangulation forms the fourth pillar of the campaign described by the rights group. The organization asserts that Israeli policies have intentionally suppressed economic vitality across the territory, contributing to a dramatic spike in West Bank unemployment, which climbed from 13.1 percent in 2022 to more than 31 percent by 2024.
The fifth mechanism identified in the publication is the sweeping suppression and criminalization of Palestinian political life and civic organizing. Israeli authorities systematically target collective mobilization by outlawing political assembly, breaking up peaceful demonstrations, and conducting sweeping arrests of community activists, university students, and members of the press.
Media workers have faced particularly intense scrutiny and targeting during this period. Since the outbreak of Israel's military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, Israeli forces have detained at least 60 Palestinian journalists operating inside the occupied West Bank.
In light of these findings, B’Tselem called upon the international community to fundamentally reassess its approach to the conflict by refusing to treat Israeli abuses as isolated events. The rights organization urged world powers to end all forms of complicity and take decisive steps toward dismantling Israel’s military occupation and apartheid framework.
Concluding the report’s appeal, Novak warned that foreign governments cannot legitimately voice verbal condemnation of these actions while continuing to afford Israel diplomatic and political impunity. The director stressed that international institutions and states are obligated to utilize every legal instrument available under international law to halt the ongoing destruction and protect Palestinian society from systematic elimination.
